CUMBRIA YOUTH SUBSTANCE MISUSE (CYSM) - What support is available locally for your young person? Cumberland Council and Westmorland and Furness Council have Youth Substance Misuse Officers who will work on a 1:1 basis with young people. They are specialists, who are experienced in working with young people in relation to substance misuse. Referrals to the service come from a wide range of professionals, from parents or carers and young people can self-refer. Youth Substance Misuse Referral Form
Once a referral is received an officer will complete an assessment with the young person of their alcohol/substance use, usually within the family home and they will then plan the sessions they will deliver with the young person tailored to their individual need. They aim to share appropriate education and harm reduction advice, relating to alcohol/substance misuse and related risk-taking behaviour.
CUMBRIA YOUTH SUBSTANCE MISUSE (CYSM) - Cumbria Youth Substance Misuse, working with Cumberland Council and Westmorland and Furness Council, have developed factsheets aimed at teachers/professionals to give them the basic facts and tips to start having some of those informed and open conversations with young people about vaping.
They have also commissioned a short film clip aimed at parents to give them key facts around vaping and top tips on how to talk to their YP about vaping. Their channel for information to YP is our Instagram @DrugHubUK, which offers young people 24/7 access to information and advice to educate and reduce risk around drugs and alcohol. we focus on a different topic each month and will include basic information, some myth busting , there is a strong harm minimisation message and YP can contact the team for support directly through DM.
RECOVERY STEPS CUMBRIA - Humankind and The Well Communities commence to provide the Recovery Steps Cumbria service from 1 October 2021. The service will provide alcohol, drug and addiction treatment and recovery services across Cumbria. Recovery Steps Cumbria replaces the Unity alcohol and drug treatment service. This includes children of all ages, many of whose problems only become apparent in adulthood'.
AL ANON - Family support groups in the UK.
ALATEEN - Support groups in the UK and EIRE for 12-17 year olds. Alateen is for teenage relatives and friends of alcoholics and part of Al-Anon. Alateen believe alcoholism is a family disease that affects everyone in the family.
FRANK - Friendly, confidential drugs advice.
