NWG Mind Your Language - Exploitation and Victim Blaming Webinars

The aim of the webinars is to explore our practice to ensure we accurately and sensitively record and report of victim experiences.

Cumbria Safeguarding Adults Board (CSAB) and Cumbria Safeguarding Children Partnership (CSCP) are working with NWG to deliver four webinars on Mind Your Language: Exploitation and Victim Blaming over the next few months.

About these events

The language we use as professionals can have a significant, and potentially lifelong, impact on victims of exploitation and their families. A victim of exploitation is never to blame for the abuse they have lived through, yet we live in times where victims are blamed.

The “Mind Your Language: Exploitation and Victim Blaming” webinars, are being delivered by Karen Laing, trainer from NWG, providing an overview of theories of victim-blaming and gives examples of how we may see and hear victim-blaming within our working environments. The webinars will enable a discussion on victim-blaming language and terminology along with exploring how we dehumanise adults, children and young people through the language we use. The aim of the webinars is to explore our practice to ensure we accurately and sensitively record and report of victim experiences.
